DEATH BECOMES US by R.J. COLLEARY is one of seven plays in the Los Angeles Playwrights Lab’s second production of original shorts: 7 CORPSES. In Colleary’s DEATH BECOMES US, Ted and Emma are cosmically doomed to spend eternity trapped in the bedroom where they once lived, loved – and died. But when Myles and Heather, current occupants of the house, get life-changing news, it opens old, long- buried wounds for Ted and Emma.

CHRIS BOUFFARD is very happy to be working on stage once again in Los Angeles, and especially pleased to be working with such great talents as Bob Colleary and Suzan Mikiel. A native of Michigan, Chris now lives with his two rescue dogs in the Laurel Canyon section of Los Angeles where he makes his way as a Voice Over and Commercial actor with over one hundred national advertisements to his credit. His hobbies include Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and playing the guitar.

CAT LACOHIE (Emma) Cat LaCohie is LA’s most recent import from London, England. Since moving across the Atlantic earlier this year, she booked leads in three independent films and the PSA What If regarding women’s abortion rights. She currently plays the cynical roommate Leslie in the comedy web series Reach. On the theatre scene Cat played the challenging and highly enjoyable role of transexual Dick/Charlotte in comedy play, Missing Dick by Gordon Bressack, and in the stage version of Clue. Cat can also be seen performing as her alter ego: cabaret host and circus burlesque performer, Vixen DeVille - enjoying her downtime by playing with fire, lounging from an aerial hoop or relaxing on a bed of broken glass!

JENNIFER LYNN MALLOY (Heather) has had a wonderful time working with such a talented group! Jennifer graduated from Vassar, received an MFA from the Actors Studio Drama School and is a member of the Actors Studio. She recently played a crazy online dater in God, Coffee & Gasoline and her film My Life as Abraham Lincoln just won the Audience Choice Award at the Art of Brooklyn Film Festival. Credits include I, Claudius with Theatre Askew, and Wildwood Park and Sweet Eros at Bleecker Street Theatre. She thanks acting coach John Kirby, friends and family, especially husband Chris and son Sebastian.

*JOHN RUSHING (Ted) thanks Suzan Mikiel and the cast of Death Becomes Us for the wonderful theater experience. R.J. COLLEARY (Playwright) is an LAPL rookie and recovering TV writer making his foray into the world of one-act plays after previous full-length productions of PUBLICITYVILLE (2009), CANNIBALS (2010), and ADDITION BY SUBTRACTION (2011). His 10-part comedic webseries, “Besties,” was described as “original,” “subversive,” and “frankly, troubling.” His next full-length play, :-) & :-( (yes, that’s the actual title; aka Happy Face Sad Face) will open at The Lillian in January 2013.

In Fisher’s BOYS’ NIGHT, Thursday night is boys’ night - the night when Scott and Derek can forget the rest of the world and just be themselves. Only, when Scott accidentally hits a dog on the way to work, it releases a flood of nightmarish childhood memories best forgotten and Scott learns that you can trust your best friend anything… Or can you?

PAUL MAYLONE (Scott) Although Paul Maylone majored in theatre at the University of Maryland and the Interlochen Arts Academy, it’s been nearly fifteen years since he’s gone anywhere near the dramatic arts. He therefore has no film/stage credits worth mentioning. He lives in Ojai with his true love and adorable son and works in the solar industry.

BETHY POLUIKIS (Mindy) is thrilled to be a part of Boys Night. Originally from Dallas, TX, Bethy moved to Los Angeles by way of Chicago, where her theatre credits include Hedda Gabler, Twelfth Night, andDancing at Lughnasa, as well as a Jeff-nominated production of The Philadelphia Story. Bethy loves comedy and performs in various sketch and improv shows at Second City Hollywood. She has appeared in a series of sketches for Chelsea Lately, as well as the web series THE FAIRY TALES. DAVID HAVERTY (Director) is excited and honored to be directing Michael Shaw Fisher’s piece Boy’s Night, David’s Los Angeles Stage Directing Debut! Graduate of PCCA (FL), Musical Theatre Major, Artistic Director of Bravo Centre for the Arts (FL). Attended Marymount Manhattan College in NYC, Theatre Arts major, taught at the Children’s Acting Academy (NYC), SM/Entertainment Director at the Jekyll & Hyde Club (NYC), Tech Director for Ensemble Studio Theatre’s 25th Anniversary One Act Marathon (NYC). In LA David has worked in production in Film/TV from Producer to Prod Assistant. Assisted multiple shows at the Sacred Fools Theatre. Currently owner of ProduceYourReel (.com).

MICHAEL SHAW FISHER (Playwright) is a writer, actor and director who graduated with Thesis Distinction in 2008 from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. Most recently Michael has performed in Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum 2011 season productions of Richard III and Rose Cottages. His original play the Barking Pig was workshopped at the LA Playwright’s Lab (of which he is a co-founder). The Barking Pig premiered at 2011’s Hollywood Fringe Festival and was selected to be part of the Best of the Fringe. Most recently, his original rock musical Doomsday Cabaret premiered in the 2012 Hollywood Fringe, which not only received Best of Fringe distinction, but also Best Musical. Michael is also a member of the Board of Directors for the upcoming Sonoma Theatre Company.

SHAELA COOK (Viv) is honored to be a part of the Los Angeles Playwrights Lab. A graduate of the University of Utah Actor’s Training Program and the Washington D.C. Shakespeare Theatre Classical Workshop, Shaela has performed on numerous stages around the globe and in various film and television productions (look for her in the upcoming films Heterosexual Jill and Into the Equinox). Some of her favorite stage roles include Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Lady Macbeth in Macbeth and Susan in Vinegar Tom. She is a company member of Sacred Fools. June has received commissions from the Magic Theater and Visual Artists Theater in New York. Her screenplay HARARE, HARARE was a finalist in the 2008 Page Screenwriting Awards. A budding director and performer as well, June has worked with the Blank (Young Playwrights Festival, The Living Room Series), Absolute Theater (The INSIDIOUS IMPACT OF ANTON), City Garage (THE TROJAN WOMEN), Mark Taper’s Taper, Too (SLIDE/GLIDE THE SLIPPERY SLOPE), Odyssey (THREE-PENNY OPERA), Berkeley Repertory theatre (CIVIL SEX, MACBETH), A.C.T. (INSURRECTION: HOLDING HISTORY), and the Magic (PIECES OF THE QUILT).

MEREDITH SIMONDS (Playwright) wrote and produced her first play - “The Disconnect” - for the Los Angeles Playwrights Lab’s production of original shorts, “Beginnings,” in Spring 2012. Meredith is also a screenwriter who has received recognition from the Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting.

MOURNING STORY by JUNE CARRYL is one of seven plays in the Los Angeles Playwrights Lab’s second production of original shorts: 7 CORPSES. In Carryl’s MOURNING STORY, in the days following the Fukushima disaster, an old couple combs the beach and finds a young man mourning his lost daughter.

ARTHUR KENG (Toichi) is excited to be a part of The Mourning Story team. Previous credits include King Lear at California Shakespeare Theatre, A Midsummer Night’s Dream at CenterRep, Take Me Out at the New Conservatory Theatre, Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge! at SF Playhouse, Mr. Marmalade at Custom Made Theatre, and the world premiere of Ching Chong Chinaman at Impact Theatre. Arthur graduated this past summer with his MFA from the University of Southern California.

*EIJI INOUE (Yasuo) came from Gifu, Japan to pursue an international acting career in 1992. He has numerous credits in film, TV shows and plays. His credits include Click, The Last Samurai, Pearl Harbor, NCIS, and Gilmore Girls. He dedicates his performance to the tsunami victims and their families.

*MOMO YASHIMA (Setsuko) was born in New York City and moved to East Los Angeles when she was five. Her parents, artists Mitsu and Taro Yashima wrote award winning children’s books (3 time winner of Caldecott Honors) and her brother was the award winning actor, Mako. She studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse under Sanford Meisner. In Los Angeles, she worked with the Music Center’s Improvisational Theater Project with Gordon Davidson and East West Players. Her work with the Resisters of Conscience (Men who fought the government’s internment of the Japanese Americans on the West Coast during WWII and questioned the legality of drafting the internees), entitled A DIVIDED COMMUNITY: 3 STORIES OF RESISTENCE and won the 2012 BEST CONCEPT AWARD. Momo is married and has 2 daughters. She is most always unemployed, so it’s a good thing she’s a great cook! She religiously goes to her Jazz Dance classes, taught by the Luigi disciple, Hama.

+NIKKI HEVESY (Director) +Nikki Hevesy is an award-winning director who works in theatre, TV, and film. She has directed and/or produced over 50 plays, musicals, comedies and original works and was Founding/Artistic director for five years of City Light Performing Arts Co. in San Francisco. She has worked with South Coast Rep, Berkeley Rep, VITA Shakespeare, Theatre Geo, Moving Arts, The Eureka Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre, The Taper (New Works Festival) and the Nat’l Theatre of Uganda, where she wrote and directed a one-man musical. Nikki holds a BA in Theology and an MFA in Directing from USC. She is currently developing projects for film/ TV under Through the Glass Productions and directing a gang intervention documentary: A Violence Disrupted.

LISA CICCHETTI (Liz) is thrilled to be a part of the LAPL and to be working with her husband Tony again for the 6th time. CATHERINE LYDON’s (Waitress) comeback tour continues to be fun & fulfilling. Over the past 4 years: 20 music videos, 4 web series (currently all episodes of Elders React on Youtube), more than a dozen short films and several plays including an original musical and one of her acting bucket list roles, Nat in Rabbit Hole. And now, glad to be on L.A.’s Theatre Row playing the deliciously quirky Waitress in the world premiere of Call This a Date. “Everyone says I’m having too much fun and I agree – but isn’t that the point?”

BENNETT COHON (Director) has been directing in Equity Waiver Theatre in Los Angeles Area for 13 years. He has directed plays by local playwrights including William Derringer, Matthew I. Swaye, Douglas Leal, Hindi Brooks, Mark Harvey Levine, Alan Cook, Dan Roth, Jim McGinn, Herman Poppe, EM Lewis, Richard Martin Hirsch, and Thomas Misuraca. In the past year he has directed “A Public Service” by Jim McGinn at Working Stage, Michael Sadler’s adaptation of the Stephen King story “Mute” at the Visceral Company and “Geeks! The Musical” with book and lyrics by Thomas Misuraca and music by Ruth Judkowitz at Write Act Repertory Theatre.

JULIE CAIN (Playwright) is originally from England. She moved to the United States fifteen years ago. Julie has written and performed for the Comedy Central Stage at the Hudson theater in Hollywood. She has been in several shows as an actress and singer. She now writes for Ms. Magazine

VICTORIA HOGAN (Sissy) has recently returned to Los Angeles after studying in both New York & England. She trained at the Neighborhood Playhouse and The London Academy of Dramatic Arts. CORY KEMPTON (Charlie) is a musician and actor as well as a California kid from back in the day. The majority of his life has been spent traveling the country and visiting as many foreign countries as possible. CARRIE REEVES (Betsy)Carrie Reeves (Betsey, Family Penalty) is a Los AnSgeles native who studied theatre & film at Emerson College in Boston. Her studies took her through Europe & landed her back in Los Angeles where she continued at Jeff Golblum’s Playhouse West Repertory Theatre. As a member for five years she practiced wearing all hats; performing, directing, writing and producing. Most recently her attention has been geared towards developing new media projects. She is thrilled to be back on stage and part of such a creative and fantastic group of artists.

ANDREA ANDRESAKIS (Director), recently directed Shrink, by Sydney Nikols for the OC-Centric New Play Festival at Chapman University. MAYA JEAN (Elsa) is excited to be making her stage debut with the LA Playwrights’ Lab. She is a Nashville, TN transplant where she was featured in Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University DVD and the RJ Young “Paper Free Office” ad campaign, which included commercials, magazine ads and billboards. She can be seen in the feature film, Magic Mike, as well as television shows House, Private Practice, and Melissa & Joey, to name a few. Maya is currently studying at the Actors Comedy Studio in Los Angeles.

YASMINA CHIRAZI-SOMMERS (Director), originally from London, graduated from LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Arts) and is a proud member of SAG/AFTRA, AEA and British Equity. She is thrilled to be collaborating again with the “LAPL” this time as a director of “Death Unit” - Thank you Robert. LA theatre credits include: Melissa, Baby Toes, Richard III, Darwins’ Nightmare, Iron Brew. ROBERT GARDNER (Playwright) has written and directed a short, I COULD HEAR YOU ALL THE WAY DOWN THE HALL and two indie features, CLARENCE AND ANGEL and KING JAMES VERSION. He wrote the screenplay, CRIE DU COUER, which won Second Prize at the Venice and Berlin Film Festivals. He is the co-writer for the film, WEDDING PALACE opening theatrically, Spring 2012. Mr. Gardner also is the co-creator of the L.A. Playwrights Lab.
